Brief History of the Department
The Department of Fisheries & Aquaculture Management was formerly with the department of Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries Management which was established in the year 2000 and formerly calved out of this department in the year 2016.
The philosophy of this Department is to produce graduates who have acquired appropriate knowledge and skills in techniques, learning and conducts in the areas of Fisheries and Aquaculture Management, as may be necessary for the upliftment of social and economic needs of our time.
The curriculum is structured to meet the demands of academic activities and other educational resources, training, research and services for application to other similar situations locally and internationallyThe Department has passed through series of accreditation exercises by National Universities Commission (NUC) and awarded full accreditation.
The past Heads of the Department from onset to date are: Mr. T. A. Aiyelari (2000-2003), Dr. F. O. Agbebi (2003-2005), Dr. O. I. Ajewole (2005-2006), Dr. F. O. Agbebi (2006-2009), Dr. L. Awoyemi (2009-2011), Dr. O. O. Fapohunda (2011-2012), Prof. S. K. Adeyoju (2012-2013), Dr. T. Jegede (2013-2015), Dr. O. G. E. Arowosoge (2015-2016), Prof. O. O. Fapohunda (2016-2018), Dr. I. A. Adebayo (2018-2020), Dr. B. W. Obe (2020-2022), Dr. B. J. Akin-Obasola (2022-2024).
Presently, the Department has eight (8) academic staff; four (4) Professors, (1) Associate Professor, two (2) Senior Lecturers and one (1) part-time Lecturer. They are Prof. E. A. Fasakin (on sabbatical), Prof. O. O. Fapohunda, Prof. T. Jegede, Prof. I. A. Adebayo, Dr. (Mrs.) B. W. Obe, Dr. (Mrs.) B. J. Akin-Obasola, Dr. T. A. Aiyelari and Miss O. O. Olagunju.
The Department is endowed with highly rated and respectable academic staff.
